On Derek's death The Minack Chronicles Trust came into effect, as instructed in his Will, and in April 2001 Registered Charity status was obtained. The Trustees were Jane Bird (of "A Drake At The Door"), who succeeded Derek as tenant of Dorminack cottage and flower farm, Moira Tangye (the widow of Derek's late brother Nigel) and Malcolm and Anne Sutton, whom Derek introduced (and for whom he played "matchmaker"!) in 1989 when first choosing his future Trustees. Malcolm and Anne retired from the Trust in 2005.

The aims of the Charitable Trust are:

1. " To advance the education of the public about the Minack Chronicles … and in particular by preserving the Oliver Land as a place of solitude to which the public may have access … the better to understand the Minack Chronicles and my other literary work.

2. To support the work of the Cornish Heritage Trust , the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and such other charities with similar objectives as my Trustees may determine.

3. To promote the care and treatment of sick and injured pets whose owners are unable to afford appropriate treatment, by paying all or part of the veterinary fees."

The first aim will be achieved by permitting access to the Nature Reserve for those who wish to visit the "place for solitude": "How do I get there?"

and by the Trust granting an annual bursary.at PO Box 455, Newquay, Cornwall, TR7 3WY, UK.

The third aim will be achieved by making donations to appropriate animal charities.
